Tard dans la nuit d’hiver nivernaise, de l’année de ses vingt ans, des coups répétés à la porte de la maison familiale le secouèrent de son canapé. Marc, surpris, n’entendait pas les braillements habituels des joyeux larrons qui l’accompagnaient parfois lors de virées mémorables. Je vous ai déjà parlé de Marc Vérat ? Oui. Bon, mais j'en reparle, de ce Nivernais discret, artiste contemporain à la technique impensable, aux périodes créatrices nombreuses, toutes sous tendues par de puissantes interrogations dont la finalité comprend toujours une extraordinaire dimension esthétique et surréaliste. Marc Vérat est chez Ktreize avec l'une de ses incroyables séries, symbolique, cubiste, aérienne, dont les aplats, les dégradés, les perspectives, laissent pantois peintres et dessinateurs. Mais ce qui subjugue dans ces toiles, c'est cette intemporalité dont la signification peut prendre place à n'importe quelle époque, en offrant des lectures renouvelées de l'être par rapport à l'espace et aux choses, des explorations éternelles de l'espace terrestre et des horizons lointains. La rigueur de l'exécution confère aux œuvres un genre de longévité qui devrait survivre à un artiste dont les rares apparitions publiques ajoutent du mystère à ses réflexions créatrices. Baigneuses

La propreté n’était pas la caractéristique majeure des XVIIIème et XIXème siècles.

Si l’on se parfumait beaucoup, on se lavait rarement. Ce n’était pas seulement une condition d’aisance matérielle : la société dans son ensemble répugnait à ces manières jugées inutiles. On disait alors d’un homme, comme d’un fromage, qu’il avait du “caractère”, ce qui signifiait qu’il sentait fort et que son commerce n’en était que plus agréable !

La scène du porteur de bain des grandes villes, ou plus prosaïquement la baignade, attirait parfois quelques badauds et les moqueurs se gaussaient de ces bourgeois qui croyaient se “laver l’âme en se frottant le cul”.
